“Ye are all fruits of one tree, the leaves of one branch, the flowers of one garden.” – Bahá’u’lláh

Make these 3D gardens with your children or Children’s class using recycled trash.

What you’ll need:

Paper egg cartons, toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls, cardboard, coffee straws (4 per child), paint (we used tempera) and paint brushes (or markers/crayons), a hot glue gun. (Glitter – if you’re so inclined).

First have the children paint and decorate a cardboard rectangle. This is going to be used as the base of the garden.

Cut and break apart the egg carton reserving the cups. These will be the flowers. We also included a few smaller diamond shaped flowers which were just left over after we cut apart the egg carton. You can really use any shape of paper or cardboard to make your flowers.

Using a toilet paper roll, cut out grass and leaves keeping one half of the paper roll intact and connected.

Let the children paint and decorate all their different pieces. Once dry, let an adult glue it all together. We used coffee stirrers to keep some of the heavier flowers supported. The rest were cut into small pieces and glued into the mouth of the larger flowers. Voila! An upcycled 3D garden!
